The Algarve has long been a rich source of inspiration for artists. The stark white light and succulent colours offering a stunning vibrancy – from the over-flowing market stall with its eclectic variety of foods, bustling village squares, full beaches and, of course, clear blue sea. So, it is no surprise that Giles Ward’s paintings of fish and shellfish are proving so popular.
This year Giles’ work has been on display at Corte Real Gallery near Paderne in the Algarve.
“Entrar nesta galeria é como entrar num quadro cheio de côr – walking into the gallery is like walking into a colourful painting”
The gallery is a wonderful Aladdin’s cave of sculpture, ceramics and paintings. Giles’ large colourful oils fit the setting perfectly, with two of them, ‘Crab Claw 2017’ and ‘Shore Crab 2017’ both selling in the last few weeks and with more on the way.
Next time you visit he Algarve make sure you seek out this tantalising treasure trove of wonderful art:
