It may be tempting to shy away from the trend for all things ‘social’ online, but for artists it is a rapidly growing way of getting their work noticed.
Giles is a keen advocate of the online world, especially the social media platform Instagram.
“I used it very early in my development as a painter to gauge reaction to the progress of my paintings. Since them I have found a wonderful community of galleries, artists and supporters. I have successfully submitted to galleries via Instagram and, although it was never my aim, I have even sold pictures directly from my account.”
Whilst Instagram, facebook and twitter are excellent ways of building an artist’s profile, platforms like youtube and Pinterest are invaluable for sourcing inspiration and learning new art techniques.
