Giles was recently approached to contribute a bespoke painting for The Fishermen’s Mission’s 2021 Calendar, to help raise funds for the organisation.
Calendar Gills: Artwork & Recipe Calendar 2021
Each month of the calendar features a unique piece of art created to correspond with an accompanying recipe. All recipes have been donated by celebrity chef supporters of The Fishermen’s Mission including Nathan Outlaw, The Tanner Brothers, Mitch Tonks and Tom Brown.
Giles was asked to create an image of a hake to accompany The Tanner Brothers’ recipe for ‘Roast Hake & Cockles in a Beef Sauce with Chive Butter Cream’ featuring on the page for October. Using Giles’ trademark technique of adopting textures and mixed media, the image of a hake sits upon a background of ‘found’ hake recipes and recipe book pages.
About The Fishermen’s Mission
The Fishermen’s Mission has been a vital support to the fishing community for over 136 years. Disturbed by the poor conditions in which fishermen worked and lived, Ebenezer Joseph Mather founded the organisation in 1881 and it was subsequently granted royal approval by Queen Victoria. The Fishermen’s Mission provides vital services to active and retired fishermen around the whole of the UK. The Mission offers practical, spiritual and financial support, as well as supplying a vital emergency response service for accidents or loss at sea. With no financial government support The Fishermen’s Mission depends on donations.
