Giles Ward Paintings has partnered with the charity, The National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow, Cornwall, to offer you something very special indeed. When you buy one of Giles Ward’s popular lobster prints we will adopt a lobster on your behalf! What’s more, for every original Lobster picture bought, we will adopt a whole lobster family! Ahh!
The National Lobster Hatchery is a marine conservation, research and education charity specifically related to The European Lobster. In the last few years they have established themselves as a centre of expertise on a global scale.
Lobster is worth a huge amount both economically and socially. The Lobster is the most valuable fish caught in the UK and is part of a major export industry. This one species alone is worth £30m each year and without it, small coastal communities would struggle. Lobsters are subject to considerable fishing pressure and vulnerable to catastrophic stock collapse if they are not looked after sustainably.
A female lobster can carry in the region of 20,000 eggs, however only one of these is normally expected to survive in the wild. With skilful use of modern technology, At The national Lobster Hatchery, they can improve this survival rate by over 1000 times! They nurture and release over 55,000 juvenile lobsters every year. So, by adopting a lobster, or a family of lobsters, you are helping these wonderful creatures survive and flourish in our seas.
