Before He Was Drunk by Giles Ward
A person’s life is catalogued in legal documents. He knows this. He’d been a legal clerk once. Before he was drunk. He spreads out the forms on the old lady’s mahogany dining table and fills in what he can from the details he has found. He could have been a detective. He will get what she needs from the post office. A good deed. He finishes the modest contents of her walnut drinks cabinet and slides her eyelids shut like they do in the films. He could have been a doctor. He could have been priest. Before he was drunk.
